John Travolta paid tribute to his longtime friend Oprah Winfrey on Saturday during the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Governors Awards in Los Angeles. Travolta and wife Kelly Preston attended the ceremony that also honored actor James Earl Jones and make-up artist Dick Smith. Winfrey won the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, an honorary Oscar.Winfrey was introduced by Travolta, Quincy Jones, Maria Shriver, producer Larry Gordon and a student she’d never met but whose education she funded, according to The Associated Press.“The academy got it right,” Travolta said, calling Winfrey “the most wonderful person in the world, the most magical person in the world and the most powerful person in the world.”He also called Winfrey — who starred in “The Color Purple,” among other films — a “damn good actress.”And amid much joking and Winfrey ribbing, Travolta claimed he introduced her to tequila at his 50th birthday party.
